A world-wide gathering of renowned shakuhachi players, Living National Treasures from Japan, professional performers, scholars, absolute beginners and shakuhachi enthusiasts will be held in Australia for the first time.

The Festival features concerts, workshops, master classes, seminars and exhibits. There will be many world premiers for new works for the shakuhachi throughout the Festival.

The main festival venue will be the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, located near Sydney's Circular Quay and the Rocks. The facilities include five concert venues, all with superb acoustics. The main hall, Verbrugghen Hall, is magnificent. Seminar rooms, rehearsal rooms and practice rooms will also be used by WSF08.

Almost all concert, workshop, symposia, and lecture venues will be under one roof. Travel time between some venues and events can be counted in seconds, so participants will be able to attend more of the festival events of their choosing than would otherwise be the case.

Sydney Conservatorium of Music is a short walk away from every level of accommodation, from the most inexpensive backpackers and youth hostels to five star luxury. It is also a few minutes away from the exquisite City Recital Hall at Angel Place, the venue of the public, WSF08 Main Concert.
